Kenya Conference on Non-Revenue Water Management 2026
Access to water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) is a fundamental human right recognized by the United Nations and anchored in Sustainable Development Goal 6 (SDG 6): ensuring availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all.
Water and sanitation are central to achieving broader development goals, including climate resilience, food security, health, energy, and economic growth. However, efficient water resource management remains a major global and national challenge.
With only a few years to 2030, global progress toward SDG 6 is off track:
In Kenya:
-1 in 4 people lack safely managed drinking water
-Nearly half lack safely managed sanitation
-Water coverage: 66%
-Sanitation coverage: 36%
Climate change, population growth, and recurrent droughts are increasing pressure on already limited water resources, making water efficiency and loss reduction critical.
It is against this background that the Ministry of Water, Sanitation and Irrigation, the Water and Sanitation Providers Association (WASPA), and the Kenya Water Institute (KEWI), together with their partners—the Council of Governors (COG) and the County Government of Nakuru—propose to host the Kenya Water Conference & Exhibition on Non-Revenue Water (NRW) Management 2026.
